Now that you have started getting traffic into your sales funnel, which begins with your free gift offer and eventually leads people to your product offer(s), you’re ready to move people farther into your sales funnel for long-term value to you and them.



But you have to establish trust all along the way. Some people may be ready to puchase from you after seeing your free gift. But most will need to build more trust.


How do you do that?



Nurture, Upsell, Nurture, Upsell, Nurture, Upsell…that’s the sequence you’ll be repeating over and over. What it means is that you must continue to give your audience a reason to stay with you (more free gifts, tips, videos, etc.) while you introduce your product offers gracefully along the way.


The upsell process is delicate at times…different people respond to different types of information and different forms of communication and languaging.


But there are some things you can count on…

  • Here are some things you should try to include in your sales (upsell) funnel…
  • Nurturing emails with additional value.
  • Upsell emails suggesting next-steps for the reader.
  • Upsell emails making special offers.
  • Webinars or videos that explain your work while also suggesting a next step (sale).
  • Live group Q&A calls – for those who have questions and want to hear from you personally.
  • Online chat or call center.
  • Sales page (the place where people actually purchase online).
  • Direct to Cart page (for people who are already sold and don’t need to see the complete sales page).

Best Practices

People have the right and inclination to unsubscribe to your email list EVERY time you send them something. So earn your audience’s trust with each email you send by giving them something of great value each time. This could be a tip, a link to a blog article you wrote, or a helpful resource. Don’t assume people want to keep reading what you have to say…instead, earn their trust every time you connect.

Online businesses are always tempted to use every piece of information as often as possible, in as many places as possible. I they produce a short informational video, for example, they tend to place the video on Youtube, announce it in their social media and send a link to it in their email newsletter.

But don’t be them. Leave some of your content OFF the public networks. When you give your mailing list a free tip or ebook download, make sure this special gift is not publicly available to everyone — or it won’t have the same perceived value with your audience.

Here is a 6-step outline for effective webinars…

1. Give primary proposition statement, then tell them what they will get if they listen through to the end of webinar…

  • Try to appeal to emotions.
  • Try to appeal to your primary types (4 personality types)
  • Use negative drivers over positive drivers if the language is stronger

  • Don’t belabor this, or it will feel like you’re trying too hard to justify yourself.
  • Just drop some credentials and maybe how many people you’ve helped or some similar statistic.

3. Overcome Objections even before starting the content…the 1 or 2 most common objections.

Some of you may be thinking… how is this different than all the other self-help programs out there that claim….
Some of you may be thinking… this sounds like a feel-good program, but how will I actually benefit from it?
Some of you may be thinking… I’m not sure if an online course can make that big of a difference…

4. Main content area — including your personal story. Give something of value. Solve a problem.

  • 5 steps to…
  • 3 Keys to…

I used to have this problem, but now I have a new experience…
I searched everywhere for a solution and that’s how I came up with my 5 steps to…

5. Live example or Q & A.

6. Recap: how to use this information? Then Call To Action.

Remind people of the benefits they just received.
Give a Call to Action with an incentive to purchase now.
